Oban cafe to be transformed into ice cream and burger bar by successful new owner
The Kitchen Garden, a well-known seafront café in Oban, is to be converted into an ice cream and burger bar.
The café, located at 14 George Street, closed in March 2018 after 25 years in operation as a delicatessen cafe, selling continental deli produce, cheeses and fine wines, freshly made meals, cakes and pastries.
It has been sold to Paul Sloan, who owns several other of the Argyll town’s diners and venues in Glasgow and Edinburgh. After it has been refurbished, the café will be known as Gelatoburger.
Paul said: “We are very excited about this site. It’s our first of this concept we are opening, and thanks to Christie & Co, Gelatoburger will open before Easter as the first full gelateria and 100 seater burger bar combination.”
Josh Hill, business agent at Christie & Co handled the sale. He said: “After running a bespoke marketing process for the landlord, we identified a high number of potential new tenants, including national brands and single unit operators, early on.
"After reviewing all of our options, we were delighted to strike a deal with the new tenant who has a vast amount of experience in the casual dining sector.”

Most restaurants still rely on employees to fill in handwritten timesheets stating their hours worked. Not only does this run the risk of being inaccurate thanks to employees’ forgetfulness, or worse, deliberate attempts to commit wage fraud, but it can also be a massive drain on your office and payroll staff who have to approve and type up all the information.
A workforce management system from Time and Attendance Scotland would bring your attendance systems up-to-date and reduce workloads considerably.
For example, managers would no longer need to approve every single timesheet every single week or month, and accounts staff would no longer need to laboriously type up the timesheets to enter them into the payroll system.
Instead, the information would be gathered in real-time and stored in an easy to use centralised system, where it can be checked by supervisors for validity, exported to payroll systems such as Sagepay, or made into reports using our report wizard and advanced report creating facility.
All the staff would need to do is clock in and out using one of our terminals, with either a smartcard or a biometric measurement (fingers or hands). If a physical clocking terminal is not suitable for your premises (for example if you rent and cannot change the wiring) then we can also offer our online/mobile app Self Service Module (SSM).
