Barclays begins to expand in preparation for their big move in 2021
As part of its preparation to move into its new building in Buchanan Wharf, Barclays is recruiting more staff.
Since it is not due to start moving into its new premises until 2021, Barclays has rented 700 desks at Princes House in West Campbell Street to place its necessary new staff.
Scott Stewart, the Scotland site lead, said: "With phase one of our new site at Buchanan Wharf arriving in two years’ time we need to start making additional headroom now as we grow our numbers.
"Barclays are delighted to have secured this new space at Princes House in the heart of the city centre.
"It will provide an important stepping stone towards our new home in Tradeston."
In November Barclays broke ground as work began on the new campus, which is due to house its technology, functions and operations teams.
Work began on the Buchanan Wharf campus in November, which has been acquired from Drum Property Group. The mixed-use scheme will be home to Barclays’ technology, functions and operations teams, and will enable Barclays to double their workforce to 5,0000 strong. At least 42% of these new jobs must be “high-value” roles and at least 341 must be made available to people with a disability.

Many office-based businesses don’t see the point in using a time and attendance system, but we think differently.
Company who don’t use time and attendance systems often say that it is good enough for the management to get employees to ring them about absences, and that they will notice suspicious lateness patterns.
But humans are fallible: that’s why we have computers! Unless the manager marks absences down on some sort of calendar that they refer to regularly they won’t notice any patterns, and lateness can be missed if the manager isn’t actively watching the door.
We’re sure you don’t want your capable managers’ time to be wasted by becoming a pencil-tapping clock-watcher. Instead, you could invest their time in improving their skills and productivity further, while our centralised time and attendance management system quietly, quickly and accurately collects all the data you need and stores it in an easily exportable and reportable form.
If you want the physical hardware, this is operated using either radio-frequency smartcards or fingerprint entry/exit.
We can also offer a purely software version, including a mobile app, if your employees are remote or travel a lot, or you aren’t able to alter the wiring of your office. This Self Service Module also allows employees to request annual leave and means it is quick and simple for managers to view and approve or deny the request.
